Osoba Warns of Southern Gang‑Up Against Tinubu
Former Ogun State governor Olusegun Osoba has raised the alarm that a coalition of Southern politicians is plotting to weaken President Bola Tinubu’s prospects in the 2027 presidential election.
Tinubu’s Dominant Showing in Ogun APC Primary
Speaking at the Presidential Lodge in Abeokuta during the announcement of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primary results in Ogun State, Osoba noted that Tinubu secured 322,485 votes across the state’s 20 local government areas, while his sole challenger, Stanley Osifo, recorded zero votes.
The result was declared in the presence of Deputy Governor Noimot Salako‑Oyedele, Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare Dr Iziak Salako, APC governorship candidate Senator Solomon Adeola, Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu, Ogun APC Chairman Yemi Sanusi, and other party leaders.
Call to Guard Against Complacency
Before the results were read, Osoba urged APC members not to assume that Tinubu faces no serious opposition. He warned that the “real election” would take place in January and cautioned against complacency.
“The enemies are many,” Osoba declared. “We must not be caught off guard. Claims that we have no opponents are misleading; the opposition is real and growing.”
Alleged Southern Coalition
Osoba specifically pointed to former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, former President Goodluck Jonathan, and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde as figures whose ambitions could split Southern votes.
“As we approach the next election, there is a strong gang‑up against us. They are planning to field several candidates from our region in the South. Obi has emerged, Jonathan is waiting in the wings, and Makinde has been grandstanding — all aimed at dividing our votes,” he said.
Appeal for Massive Support
The elder statesman appealed to APC members in Ogun State to vote massively for Tinubu, reminding them of the President’s contributions to the state’s development under Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration.
“Under our governor, President Tinubu has been good to us in Ogun State through a series of developmental projects. I hope you will repay his gesture with your support. Will you do that or not?” Osoba asked, urging unity and decisive action.
