Oriyomi Hamzat Secures Accord Party Governorship Ticket for Oyo State 2027 Election
Popular Ibadan-based broadcaster Oriyomi Hamzat has emerged as the governorship candidate of the Accord Party in Oyo State ahead of the 2027 general election.
The party’s National Deputy Secretary, Abdulraman Muhammed, confirmed that Hamzat was recognised as the authentic candidate after the screening and primary process.
Initially, three aspirants obtained the governorship nomination forms: Hamzat, former Assistant Inspector‑General of Police Fatai Owoseni, and Olakunle Busari.
According to Accord officials, only Hamzat completed all requirements within the approved timetable. Owoseni failed to submit the needed documents before the deadline, while Busari reportedly appeared for screening after the exercise had closed.
Party leaders stated that Hamzat later emerged as the sole qualified aspirant and was affirmed as the party’s governorship candidate during a primary election conducted in the presence of officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission.
However, the outcome created confusion when another group announced Busari as the winner of a separate governorship primary, claiming he defeated Hamzat with 29,427 votes against 18,716 votes.
Reacting to the development, Accord’s National Organising Secretary, Ibe ThankGod, dismissed reports of any faction within the party. He maintained that Hamzat remains the only governorship candidate recognised by the party leadership.
The party official explained that the screening exercise was held between May 19 and May 21, adding that Hamzat completed all necessary requirements within the approved period. He also said Busari’s appearance after the closing date led to his disqualification from the process.
Accord insisted there was no crisis regarding the governorship ticket and maintained that Hamzat remains the party’s candidate for the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State.
