Wike Insists Tinubu Is the Only Candidate Who Can Win Rivers in 2027
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, declared on Tuesday during his monthly media briefing in Abuja that President Bola Tinubu is the sole presidential candidate capable of winning Rivers State in the 2027 general election. He emphasized that his statement comes from a position of political realism and deep knowledge of the electorate.
Cross‑Party Coalition Formed to Back Tinubu
Wike explained that politicians from various parties have united to create a broad alliance dedicated to Tinubu’s re‑election and the advancement of Rivers State’s interests. The coalition includes members of the Peoples Democratic Party, the All Progressives Congress, the Labour Party, the Action Alliance and other political groups.
Objective: Secure Tinubu’s Victory and State Development
He noted that the alliance will field candidates for the House of Assembly and National Assembly, supporting whoever is most acceptable regardless of party label. ‘The person should be seen as the coalition’s candidate, not as an APC or PDP representative,’ Wike said.

The minister reiterated that the coalition’s primary goal is to ensure Tinubu’s victory in Rivers State. He described the effort as all‑inclusive and spreading rapidly across the state.

Drawing on his decades‑long political career, Wike said his experience since 1999 has given him a firm grasp of leadership and grassroots concerns. ‘Politics is about leadership and understanding the interests of your people,’ he remarked.

He also recalled the 2019 governorship election in Rivers State, alleging that the Federal Government deployed a large contingent of security forces, likening the presence to a wartime situation. ‘We survived by the grace of God and fought back,’ he concluded.
