Ondo APC Candidate Razaq Obe Warns Party Is ‘Purchasing Its Own Death’ Over Name Substitution
Razaq Obe, a former House of Representatives aspirant for Idanre/Ifedore Federal Constituency in Ondo State, has urged President Bola Tinubu to step in and resolve the growing dispute over the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate list.
Obe claims his name was removed from the final roster and replaced with that of Festus Adefiranye, despite having emerged victorious through the party’s primary and subsequent appeal processes.
Calls for Presidential Intervention
Speaking to journalists in Akure, Obe questioned the legitimacy of the alleged changes, stating that candidates who had completed the required screening, appeal, and submission stages were already forwarded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
“Whatever error that has been made by anyone, perhaps if the so-called document is a true document, the President will kick in to redress that,” Obe said.
He emphasized that, by the stipulated deadline, the names had passed through the normal election committee, the appeal committee, and were submitted to the party before being sent to INEC. “You cannot come and do a review afterwards. That’s illegal,” he added.
Warning About Party Image
Obe warned that allowing the revised list to stand would damage the APC’s reputation and erode internal democracy.
“In a way, it will subject the party to ridicule. APC will be purchasing its own death in instalments by allowing itself to drift in this direction,” he remarked.
He urged Tinubu, APC leaders, and other stakeholders to intervene, noting that protests across Ondo State reflect the anger of party members over the alleged substitutions.
