Former Ogun State Governor Senator Ibikunle Amosun and the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate Senator Solomon Adeola have set aside their political differences, signalling a renewed push for party unity ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Closed‑door meeting fuels reconciliation
The development followed a private meeting in Abeokuta that lasted over an hour. Attendees included Amosun, Adeola, former Inspector‑General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, and several senior APC chieftains. Described as a strategic consultative engagement, the session aimed to heal lingering fractures within the Ogun State chapter of the party.
Amosun backs Adeola’s candidacy
After the talks, Senator Amosun emphasized that the party’s interests and the welfare of Ogun residents must come first. He declared his full support for Adeola’s governorship bid, urging all party members and supporters to rally behind the APC candidate.
“He is our candidate, and we must all rally round him and our party, the APC, to ensure victory of our party,” Amosun said, stressing the need for unity before, during and after the 2027 elections.
Adeola seeks Amosun’s guidance
Senator Adeola formally presented himself to Amosun as the APC’s governorship candidate, requesting the former governor’s cooperation, prayers, and political counsel. He framed the meeting as a step toward consolidating the party’s strength for the upcoming contest.
Consultation with former President Obasanjo
As part of his broader outreach, Adeola and his team visited the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library. There, he introduced himself as the APC governorship aspirant and received advice from the former president.
Obasanjo prayed that Adeola’s ambitions would align with God’s purpose for his life, sharing his own journey from an early dream of studying geology to a military‑shaped destiny. He urged the senator to stay focused, declare his goals, pursue them with determination, and leave the outcome to God and the people.
The ex‑president also recommended that, if elected, Adeola prioritize agriculture—a sector capable of creating jobs, boosting food security, and driving economic transformation in Ogun State.
Path to 2027 victory
The engagements with Amosun and Obasanjo form part of Adeola’s ongoing consultations with key stakeholders. By bridging internal divides and securing influential endorsements, the APC in Ogun State aims to present a united front capable of securing victory in the 2027 governorship election.
