Former Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has made serious allegations against his successor, Governor Monday Okpebholo. Obaseki claims Okpebholo orchestrated an assault during a recent event. This incident reportedly took place in Manchester, United Kingdom.
Allegations of External Aggression
In a widely circulated video, Obaseki stated that individuals, allegedly paid by the state government, confronted him abroad. They also reportedly assaulted members of his team. Obaseki declared that any aggression directed at him would be met with equal resistance.
“Inform Governor Okpebholo, or whatever he prefers to be called,” Obaseki asserted, “that initiating violence will result in reciprocal violence. The government financed individuals to attack me in Manchester. They assaulted Albert. I refuse to stand idly by. I will retaliate.”
Critique of Transition Process
The former governor noted his deliberate silence since leaving office. However, he now feels compelled to speak due to ongoing provocations. Obaseki also criticized the current administration’s handling of the transition. He submitted an extensive 833-page document. Yet, officials reportedly demanded sitting allowances before reviewing it.
“I provided an 833-page transition document,” he explained. “My goal was to ensure continuity. I requested a joint transition committee. They insisted on payment for their attendance.”
Escalating Political Frictions
These statements have intensified political friction between the two camps. Both political factions now exchange accusations. These claims involve mismanagement, incitement, and disrespect for due process.
