NPFL Issues Warning on Club Websites
Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Chief Operating Officer Davidson Owumi has warned all member clubs that they must create and maintain functional websites or face the loss of their operating licences. The statement was delivered during a seminar and workshop for club media officers, media directors and marketing officers held in Enugu.
Why Websites Matter for Licensing
Owumi described the lack of credible, verifiable information from the league’s 20 clubs as a major obstacle to attracting sponsorship deals. He noted that weak online visibility and absent digital platforms have already cost the league and its clubs millions of naira in potential revenue.
“Inadequate, inconsistent, epileptic or completely missing data from clubs without proper websites and social media presence is hurting our commercial prospects,” Owumi said.
Stricter Licensing Enforcement Ahead
The NPFL will begin enforcing tighter licensing rules to ensure compliance with its standards. Any club — whether newly promoted or already established in the top flight — that fails to set up, maintain or operate a functional website will not be issued a licence and could see an existing licence withdrawn.
