NPFL Warns Clubs: Functional Websites Required or Risk Licence Revocation

NPFL Issues Warning on Club Websites

Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Chief Operating Officer Davidson Owumi has told clubs that they must create and maintain functional websites or risk losing their operating licences.

The warning came during a seminar in Enugu for club media officers, marketing directors and media directors, held under the theme “NPFL/Afrinvest Marketing Investments, Brand Merchandising and Media”.

Owumi said the lack of credible, verifiable information from the league’s 20 clubs is a major barrier to attracting sponsorship deals, costing the league and its clubs millions of naira in potential revenue.

Licensing Enforcement Set to Begin

The league will start enforcing stricter licensing rules, meaning any club – newly promoted or already in the top flight – that fails to establish, maintain or operate a working website will not be issued a licence and could have an existing licence withdrawn.

Call for Better Media Departments

Beyond digital infrastructure, Owumi urged club owners to invest more in their media departments, stressing that effective communication is vital for building strong club brands.

He noted that without proper funding and regular training, media units will underperform, describing a club without a credible media presence as “useless” and “dead” in the public eye.

Owumi outlined the ideal media team: a Director of Media, Still Photographer, Graphic Designer, News Editor, Social Media Manager, Content Creator and Videographer. He criticised the current practice at many clubs where a single individual handles all these tasks, calling it unprofessional and counter‑productive.
