Nollywood veteran Chief Imo has ignited online debate after openly challenging the notion that marriage and having children are not accomplishments.
In a widely shared video, he voiced his surprise at the rising belief that personal success should not be gauged by marital status or parenthood.
He argued that such perspectives overlook the sacrifices parents endure and the intrinsic worth of nurturing a family.
Speaking with fervor, Chief Imo questioned why anyone would belittle marriage and childbearing as achievements while still enjoying the affection and support of their own parents.
He exclaimed, “What did I hear you say? Wait a minute, what did you just say? Is marriage not an achievement? Is bearing children not an achievement?”
He added, “Is that really your stance? Yet your parents brought you into the world. You take pride in them, visit them regularly, and go home to make them smile.”
The actor continued to criticize proponents of this view, asserting that they are misleading young people about the significance of family life.
He declared, “And you are here spewing nonsense, claiming marriage and having children are not achievements. Then why did they give you life? Why do you carry their name? Stop deceiving yourself; stop talking rubbish.”
In a striking moment of the clip, Chief Imo called upon traditional deities to rebuke those holding such opinions.
He warned, “May Ogun strike you down. May Amadioha thunder against that foolish mouth that dares to say marriage or parenthood is not an achievement.”
He also lauded parents for the sacrifices they make in raising children, noting that many individuals later repay those efforts by caring for their aging parents.
According to him, financially successful people often express gratitude by providing their parents with vehicles, clothing, food, and other essentials, thereby bringing them happiness.
He remarked, “Your mother endured hardship. Yet you sit here misleading youths, telling them that raising children who will someday look after you—as you now look after your parents—is not an achievement.”
Chief Imo concluded that forming a family and embracing responsible parenthood remain vital milestones, regardless of shifting attitudes toward marriage and personal fulfillment.
