A woman has ignited online discussion after describing how she challenged school officials regarding an unexpected ₦2,000 point‑of‑sale fee added to her brother’s ₦200,000 tuition payment.
Controversy Over the Extra POS Fee
She explained that she went to the school to settle the fees but objected to the additional charge for a POS device reportedly belonging to a teacher.
The disagreement intensified when the vice‑principal claimed the school’s official POS terminal was not working.
Her account quickly spread across social media, earning support from many Nigerians who urged the institution to provide transparent documentation before she left the premises.
While recounting the episode online, she said she grew doubtful after staff asked for extra money and then claimed the receipt paper had run out.
“I arrived at my brother’s school this morning to pay his ₦200,000 school fees. Why did the vice‑principal tell me to add ₦2,000 for POS charges? I questioned how a school handling that amount of money could lack a functional POS machine,” she remarked.
Parallel Concerns Surface
She noted that the situation grew more tense after she demanded an official receipt immediately after making the payment.
“After I paid, I asked for a receipt and the officer replied, ‘The receipt paper is finished; I will give it to your brother later.’ I responded, ‘Madam, I will not leave this school without my receipt. ₦200,000 is not trivial in today’s economy.’ That is when the receipt paper seemingly appeared out of nowhere,” she added.
The episode reflects a wider trend of parents and guardians complaining about hidden fees, delayed receipts, and lack of accountability in certain private schools across Nigeria.
