Criticism of Nigerian Pastors
A Nigerian man has ignited online discussion after publicly challenging several well-known pastors in the nation, claiming they alter their stance on security matters based on the ruling government.
He noted that many religious leaders who openly denounced ex‑President Goodluck Jonathan during the Chibok girls’ kidnapping are now backing President Bola Tinubu, even as Nigeria continues to face security threats.
He expressed his view in the following words:
“If you still trust any pastor in this country at this stage of your life, you need assistance. Look at how today’s pastors behave; they are the same individuals who once criticised Jonathan because they understood he could not seize their churches.”
The speaker argued that certain clerics have turned silent or supportive of the present administration regarding issues they previously opposed.
Call for Personal Faith
He urged Nigerians to cease viewing pastors as go‑betweens with God and instead cultivate a direct, personal connection with the Divine.
“Now they claim Tinubu is not the source of Nigeria’s problems. The very pastors who penned open letters to Jonathan over the Chibok incident
are now endorsing Tinubu on the same matter. These leaders are not intermediaries between you and God. Examine the tuition fees of the schools they established—could you afford them?” he added.
The footage has generated a range of reactions online; some Nigerians concur with his perspective, while others defend the clergy, asserting their right to comment on national affairs.
His comments surface amid continuing debates about insecurity in Nigeria and the responsibility of religious figures to hold those in authority accountable.
