A Nigerian professional disclosed that he received a yearly salary of $120,000 while employed at Shell in 2012. He shared this information in a widely circulated post on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Details of the Salary Disclosure
By 2022, after several promotions, his earnings had doubled. While reviewing an internal confidential document, he noticed the compensation levels of his superiors and realized the highest possible salary for his role was $480,000 per year.
He remarked, “Even if I received additional promotions over the next decade, the most I could expect would be another increase to roughly $480,000 annually. I did not want to repeat the same trajectory for another ten years.”
Turning Forty and Pursuing New Ventures
On his 40th birthday, the individual, known on X as @AskMichaelTaiwo, decided to end his association with Shell. By 2024, his own business had generated $500,000 in revenue, and the following year it reached $1,000,000, reflecting rapid expansion.
He added, “Achieving this required me to have confidence in my abilities, rely on God’s faithfulness, and listen to the inner voice urging me to aim higher, accomplish more, and attain greater success.”
