Nicolas Pépé Targets More World Cup Goals After Historic Brace
Ivory Coast forward Nicolas Pépé has promised to keep scoring after his brace propelled the Elephants into the knockout stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup for the first time.
The Arsenal loanee made history by becoming only the second Ivorian player to net twice in a single World Cup match, emulating Aruna Dindane’s effort against Serbia and Montenegro in 2006.
His opening goal, scored just seven minutes into the game, stands as the fastest ever recorded by Côte d’Ivoire at a FIFA World Cup.
Pépé praised his teammates for creating the chances and dedicated the achievement to the squad.
“I know I have what it takes. This is the reward for all my hard work, and I hope it continues in the upcoming matches,” he told FIFA.com.
“The first goal came after brilliant work from Yan Diomande; I just had to tap the ball in. For the second, Ibrahim Sangare delivered a superb pass, and I stayed focused to finish. I dedicate this performance to the lads,” he added.
