NFF Election 2026: Nomination Forms Sale Begins August 1, Poll Set for September 27 in Lafia
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Electoral Committee has published the timetable for the 2026 NFF Executive Committee elections. According to the schedule, the sale of nomination forms commences on Saturday, 1 August.
The elections themselves are slated for 27 September in Lafia, the capital of Nasarawa State. Candidates must submit their completed nomination forms by 12 August, following the release of the election rules and guidelines.
The committee will notify candidates of any document irregularities between 13 and 19 August. A correction window runs from 20 to 27 August, after which candidate screening takes place from 27 to 30 August.
A provisional list of cleared candidates will be released on 31 August. Disqualified aspirants may lodge appeals from 1 to 3 September, with the appeals panel expected to finish its work between 4 and 10 September.
The final list of eligible candidates will be published between 11 and 12 September. The delegates’ list follows on 13 September, and approved candidates may campaign from 14 to 24 September ahead of the vote.
Post‑election, the deadline for submitting election petitions is fixed for 30 September.
CAF Delegation Inspects Nigerian Facilities
In related news, a five‑member delegation from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has arrived in Nigeria to assess venues proposed for hosting the body’s 48th Ordinary General Assembly and the annual CAF Awards ceremony.
The visit follows the Federal Government’s approval, granted two months ago after a request by CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe during the Africa Summit in Nairobi, for Nigeria to stage both events.
The delegation is led by Dr Christian Emeruwa, CAF’s Head of Safety and Security. Other members include Mohammed Bakeer (technology), Inas Ahmed (travel and accommodation), Salah Mostafa (transport), and Hervé Dassoundo (branding).
The inspection began in Abuja with a review of Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport. The team will also evaluate the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre (earmarked for the General Assembly) and the Transcorp Hilton Hotel.
The CAF Congress remains the confederation’s largest non‑competition event; Nigeria has previously hosted it in 1980 and 2009.
The delegation will continue its assessment in Lagos, where it will inspect the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts (proposed venue for the CAF Awards), the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, and the EKO Hotel & Suites.
Throughout the inspection, the CAF officials are accompanied by an NFF team comprising Dr Ademola Olajire (Director of Media and Communications), Alizor Chuks (Director of Marketing), Barnabas Joro (Head of Security), Emmanuel Ayanbunmi (Chief Protocol Officer), and Tasiu Riskuwa Shehu (Head of ICT).
