Fresh controversy has emerged within the household of deceased Nollywood star John Okafor, widely recognized as Mr Ibu, following allegations by one of his sons that his stepmother, Stella Maris Okafor, seized the late actor’s possessions and left his siblings without support.
The claim surfaced shortly after Stella Maris issued a public request for financial aid, stating she was finding it difficult to provide for her own children.
Responding to the circulating footage, Okafor Somtochukwu, who describes himself as the third son and fourth child of Mr Ibu, asserted that Stella Maris had disposed of multiple properties belonging to the deceased entertainer and retained the proceeds for herself and her offspring.
He remarked, “Her children are not the only heirs of Mr Ibu. He left behind numerous offspring, both older and younger than hers. This woman, after my father’s passing, inherited a wealth of assets meant for all his children, yet she opted to keep everything for herself and her family.”
Somtochukwu stated that a Lagos residence was sold for approximately sixty million naira, while additional holdings in Enugu and Asaba were purportedly transferred after Mr Ibu’s demise.
He further noted that, despite these transactions, he obtained minimal or no assistance from Stella Maris and faced difficulties financing his schooling.
He added, “When I reached out to her for funds to cover my WAEC examinations, she claimed she had none. She ignored my messages and calls. The contributions from Nigerians during my father’s illness were consumed solely by her.”
The young man also contended that Mr Ibu had directed Stella Maris to look after him prior to his death, but she allegedly disregarded that instruction.
The accusations have ignited online debate, with many Nigerians urging both parties to present evidence and clarify the situation.
