Mohammed Abubakar Wins Bauchi APC Governorship Ticket, Defeats Yusuf Tuggar in 2027 Primary
Former Bauchi State governor Mohammed Abubakar has secured the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket for the 2027 election, defeating former Minister of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar and six other aspirants.
According to the party’s announcement, Abubakar polled 57,517 votes, while Tuggar received 26,001 votes and Nura Manu Soro garnered 13,638 votes.
Other contenders included Bala Maijama’a A. Wunti with 13,648 votes, Kabir Baba Ma’aji (8,157 votes), Baba Abubakar Suleiman (7,688 votes) and Yakubu Yakubu Abdullahi (7,181 votes).
Tuggar had complied with President Bola Tinubu’s directive that cabinet members seeking elective office in 2027 resign before March 31, 2027.
Describing his campaign, Tuggar said his ambition was a unifying effort aimed at moving Bauchi State forward, stressing that his participation would strengthen internal democracy and healthy competition within the APC.
The outcome underscores the competitive nature of the APC’s nomination process in Bauchi as the party prepares for the upcoming general elections.
