A Nigerian man has caused a stir online after revealing he obtained a new job but chose not to inform his relatives, who continue to view him as unemployed.
The account was shared by Auntie Momoza on her Facebook page.
How My Family’s Attitude Shifted After I Lost My Job
He explained that he was laid off during the COVID‑19 pandemic in 2020, and thereafter his family’s behavior toward him changed noticeably.
Although he had previously provided financial support to several relatives, they began to look down on him once his income stopped.
He also claimed that his girlfriend was barred from visiting because his family assumed she was consuming food he had not paid for.
I Have Secured a New Position
The man disclosed that he started a new job at the start of the month but deliberately kept this information from his family.
Instead, he continues to leave the house each morning pretending he is still seeking employment.
Only My Girlfriend and Nephew Treat Me With Respect
Despite the situation, he said that only his girlfriend and his nine‑year‑old nephew continue to treat him with dignity.
Plans to Move Out
He said he expects his first paycheck the following day and intends to buy his family two buckets of KFC, despite their treatment of him.
However, he has already rented a room and plans to move out next month.
“Please keep my identity private. I lost my job during the COVID‑19 crisis in 2020. My relatives began treating me like an errand boy because I had no earnings, even though I used to support them financially. My girlfriend was no longer allowed to come over because they thought she was eating food I hadn’t paid for. I obtained a job at the beginning of this month but have not told any family member. Each morning I leave the house pretending to look for work. They still pass harsh remarks about me; even my teenage nieces show no respect. The only person who sees me as a human is my nine‑year‑old nephew. I will receive my first salary tomorrow. Today they ate KFC while I had cabbage and pap. I will buy them two buckets of KFC tomorrow because I am not like them. However, next month I will move out; I have already secured a rental room. Only my girlfriend and nephew will benefit from my income. May God bless them.”
