Lukman Warns Opposition Division Could Hand Tinubu 2027 Victory

A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Salihu Moh Lukman, has issued a warning from Abuja that ongoing divisions and personal ambitions among opposition leaders could pave the way for President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) to secure another victory in the 2027 general election.

Lukman noted that despite widespread dissatisfaction with the APC-led administration, opposition parties appear to be repeating the strategic errors that weakened their chances in previous polls.

He singled out former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s Peter Obi, former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi as prominent figures whose individual presidential aspirations could undermine a collective effort to unseat the ruling party.

“If their true goal is to defeat APC and President Tinubu, why do they fail to see that division is tantamount to conceding victory to the incumbent?” Lukman asked.

The ADC official accused opposition politicians of placing personal political ambitions above the task of building a credible alternative, leaving many Nigerians disillusioned with their leadership.

Lukman argued that the differences between the leading contenders are largely superficial, stressing that a disciplined, united platform prioritising collective interest over individual ambition is essential to challenge the APC effectively.

He warned that each day of inaction and reliance on old tactics sends a troubling signal, presenting voters with a choice between “the devil and the deep blue sea” as the 2027 election approaches.
