Lukman Criticises Opposition Strategy, Warns of Repeating 2023 Mistakes Ahead of 2027 Elections
Former All Progressives Congress (APC) Vice Chairman Salihu Lukman has urged Nigeria’s opposition to step up its game if it hopes to unseat the ruling party in the 2027 general election.
While he expressed a strong desire to see President Bola Tinubu and the APC defeated, Lukman said he is frustrated with the current direction of the opposition.
He warned that without a change in approach, the opposition risks repeating the errors made during the 2023 elections, even after any judicial rulings.
Lukman stressed that personal ambitions among opposition leaders must be set aside so that the nation’s interests come first.
“As an individual, I hold no reservations. I want the APC and President Tinubu out of power in 2027. However, the way we are proceeding leaves me frustrated,” he said.
He recalled that when the opposition coalition began roughly two years ago, its goals were to unite opposition leaders and to create a party capable of holding elected officials accountable.
Lukman lamented that the present situation suggests a return to the 2023 scenario, with expectations of a miraculous turnaround that is unlikely to materialise.
