Former All Progressives Congress (APC) Vice Chairman Salihu Lukman has called on Nigeria’s opposition to sharpen their strategy if they hope to unseat the ruling party in the 2027 general elections.
Lukman Urges Opposition to Strengthen Ahead of 2027
While expressing a strong desire to see President Bola Tinubu and the APC defeated, Lukman admitted he feels frustrated with the current state of the opposition.
He warned that without decisive changes, the opposition risks repeating the shortcomings seen in the 2023 elections, even if judicial processes deliver favourable outcomes.
Lukman stressed that personal ambitions among opposition leaders must be set aside so that the nation’s interests come first.
“As a person, I have no restraint. I want APC and President Tinubu out of government in 2027. But the way we are going about it, I’m frustrated,” he said.
He recalled that two years ago, when opposition leaders began talks of a coalition, the goals were to unite the opposition and to build a party capable of holding elected officials accountable.
According to Lukman, unless those objectives are revisited, the country is likely to experience a repeat of 2023, with little chance of a miraculous turnaround.
