Lady Declares She Won’t Be Submissive, Insists Shared Finances Spark Online Debate

A Nigerian woman has ignited online discussion after sharing five reasons she thinks some men might hesitate to date or marry her.
In a widely circulated clip on X (formerly Twitter), she spoke candidly about her stance on submission, finances, and chores, emphasizing her preference for transparency in relationships.
She said, “I am not submissive. I do not believe in submission. When two people are together, they should both yield to each other. Some days I defer to you, other days you defer to me; it’s about mutual respect.”
She also argued that a partner’s income should be pooled, while her own earnings stay solely hers.
The woman noted that she isn’t accustomed to financially supporting men, having grown up watching males provide for females.
She added that her father established a high benchmark for the type of man she would admire, noting that she has been indulged and anticipates comparable treatment from any future partner.
She continued, “Your money becomes our money, but my money remains mine. My dad has already set that high bar. I’m used to being pampered, I’m reluctant to do household chores, and I view cooking as a hobby rather than a duty.”
Her remarks have drawn mixed reactions online, with some supporters agreeing with her viewpoint, while critics claim her expectations could complicate finding a suitable match.
