Kwankwaso Denies Collecting Any Security Vote Funds
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, declared that he never received a single naira from the security vote while serving as governor of Kano State for eight years.
Statement Made During News Central Interview
Speaking on News Central’s 60 Minutes programme with host Mr Kay, Kwankwaso was asked how an NDC administration would tackle corruption if elected. He responded:
“We will start from homes; governor, my hands are clean. I never collected one naira from security votes for eight years as a governor.”
He added that Nigerians deserve good governance and that his team is working to build a functional system for the country.
Concerns Over State Police Proposals
Kwankwaso also voiced reservations about the recent push to create state police forces. He warned that such structures could be exploited for political ends, especially in northern Nigeria where leadership failures have fueled insecurity.
Risks of Weapon Proliferation
The former governor cautioned that without strong oversight, state‑controlled police could become tools in the hands of office holders. He further warned against the unchecked circulation of small arms, stating that the government must not allow the proliferation of weapons across the nation.
