Kwankwaso Accuses APC Governors of Trusting Presidency to Rig 2027 Polls
Vice Presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), Rabiu Kwankwaso, said that governors who have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) are confident that the presidency will determine the outcome of the 2027 general election in their favour.
Speaking as the former Kano State governor, Kwankwaso noted that Nigerian politicians have largely stopped worrying about the electorate.
He argued that many APC governors and allied politicians believe that security agencies and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) are working for them.
He added that desperation drives these leaders to consider any action to retain power.
Quoting him directly, Kwankwaso stated, “It is not only the governor of Kano that is in APC. Almost all the governors think they should join the ruling party because they believe the presidency will write results for them.”
He continued, “We are in a very unfortunate situation where politicians are not too worried about voters. They believe that security and INEC are on their sides.”
“Because of desperation, many governors can do anything now,” he warned.
In a separate comment, Kwankwaso emphasized his personal integrity, saying he never took a single naira from the security vote during his eight‑year tenure as Kano governor.
He made the remark while discussing the country’s security challenges and was asked how an NDC administration would tackle corruption if elected.
Kwankwaso replied, “We will start from homes; my hands are clean. I never collected one naira from security votes for eight years as a governor.”
He concluded, “Nigerians are good people and they always expect a good government. We are putting together a system that can work and help the nation.”
