Kenneth Okonkwo Urges Tinubu to Step Down Ahead of 2027 Election
African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain Kenneth Okonkwo has called on President Bola Tinubu to abandon any intention of contesting the 2027 presidential election and instead resign peacefully, returning to his Bourdillon residence in Lagos State.
Okonkwo warned that waiting for the 2027 vote would be irresponsible given the relentless insecurity gripping the nation. He stressed that violence is a daily reality, with communities in Plateau, Benue, and Oyo State suffering massacres and beheadings.
He also reacted to the recent Abuja Federal High Court ruling that overturned the deregistration of the ADC, claiming the judgment aims to frustrate the opposition and pave the way for Tinubu’s coronation rather than a genuine electoral contest.
Sharing a personal ordeal, Okonkwo revealed that his worker’s mother was kidnapped in Kaduna State. When the family could not meet the ransom demand of hundreds of millions, the abductors broke two of the woman’s fingers. He described the anguish of witnessing such brutality, noting that many similar incidents go unreported.
“Life and the destruction of life is better prevented than cured,” Okonkwo said. “When somebody is killed, it’s final.” He concluded by urging Tinubu to prioritize national peace over political ambition and to step down before the 2027 election.
