Kenneth Okonkwo Urges President Tinubu to Step Down Ahead of 2027 Election
African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain Kenneth Okonkwo has called on President Bola Tinubu to abandon any plan to contest the 2027 presidential election and instead resign peacefully, returning to his Bourdillon residence in Lagos State.
Okonkwo warned that waiting for the 2027 vote would be unwise given the deteriorating security situation across the country.
He also commented on the recent Abuja Federal High Court judgment that overturned the deregistration of the ADC, saying the ruling appears designed to frustrate the opposition and pave the way for Tinubu’s coronation rather than a genuine electoral contest.
“Everything about this judgment is geared towards frustrating the opposition and trying to coronate Tinubu according to the Minister of Aviation, not elect him in 2027,” Okonkwo stated. He added that, by his performance, Tinubu would already be heading back to Bourdillon with a one‑way ticket by 2027.
On insecurity, Okonkwo stressed that the problem is daily, not occasional. He cited massacres in Plateau and Benue, beheadings in Oyo State, and argued that preventing loss of life is far better than trying to cure it after the fact.
He shared a personal ordeal to illustrate the human cost: a worker’s mother was kidnapped in Kaduna State; when the family could not meet the ransom demand of hundreds of millions, the abductors broke two of the woman’s fingers. As the worker’s only child, the incident has caused Okonkwo deep pain.
“These cases are rarely reported,” he lamented. “The core issue is that Tinubu should not even allow the election to hold; he should resign and go in peace.”
