Kenneth Okonkwo Accuses APC of Using Governor Otti to Stifle Opposition in Abia
A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Kenneth Okonkwo, has criticised the All Progressives Congress (APC) for allegedly leveraging Abia State Governor Alex Otti to suppress opposition political activities.
Speaking on Channels Television’s “Sunrise Daily,” Okonkwo said the APC has made it virtually impossible for opposition parties to campaign freely in the state.
He pointed out that the APC has imposed a fee of ₦200 million for presidential campaign billboards and ₦150 million for governorship billboards in Abia. “Multiply ₦200 million by 36 states, including the FCT, and you see the scale of the problem,” he remarked.
Okonkwo described the situation as an APC agenda aimed at strangling democratic expression, adding, “It’s unfortunate that Governor Otti would allow this to happen. The ruling party is using him to make it impossible for opposition parties to advertise their messages.”
He concluded by labelling the APC a “scourge” that seeks to destroy Nigeria’s democracy through financial barriers to political communication.
