ADC Chieftain Kenneth Okonkwo Accuses APC of Using Abia Governor to Stifle Opposition
Kenneth Okonkwo, a senior member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), said during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily that the APC has made it nearly impossible for opposition parties to run effective campaigns in Abia State by imposing exorbitant billboard costs.
He noted that presidential candidates must pay ₦200 million to erect billboards, while governorship aspirants face a ₦150 million charge, amounts he described as prohibitive.
Okonkwo warned that multiplying the ₦200 million fee by the 36 states plus the Federal Capital Territory reveals the extent of the scheme, which he labelled a deliberate attempt to undermine democracy.
Expressing surprise, he added that Governor Alex Otti appears to be complicit, allowing the APC to use his office to suppress rival political parties.
He concluded that the APC’s actions constitute a scourge aimed at destroying Nigeria’s democratic process and called for urgent attention to the issue.
