Jurgen Klopp Set to Lead Germany National Team
Jurgen Klopp has agreed to become Germany’s new head coach, marking his return to the touchline after a two‑year break following his departure from Liverpool.
The decision comes after Germany’s underwhelming performance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the subsequent resignation of Julian Nagelsmann.
Since leaving Anfield in 2024, Klopp has served as Red Bull’s Head of Global Football, but the prospect of leading his national side convinced him to resume coaching duties.
Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano reported that the agreement is near completion, with only contractual details regarding his exit from Red Bull and the final appointment terms pending.
While appearing as a pundit on Magenta TV during the tournament, Klopp confirmed that discussions with the German Football Association (DFB) are underway.
“Yes, I can confirm the talks. Things moved along quite quickly. Julian [Nagelsmann] has resigned and the DFB is working on a successor. And in the course of these considerations, they approached me.”
At 59 years old, Klopp is regarded as the DFB’s preferred choice, with negotiations accelerating in recent days. Although the paperwork remains unfinished, reports indicate that talks have progressed substantially.
