A Nigerian man has spoken openly about the events leading to his friend’s death, which left him devastated. Identified online as @silverpennydr, he explained that his friend contacted him, complaining of chest pain and excessive sweating.
Heartbroken Man Speaks Out
Shortly after, his friend was rushed to a nearby clinic, but a troubling situation emerged. Upon arrival, the facility lacked an electrocardiogram machine, prompting an immediate transfer to another health center. There, an ECG was finally performed on his friend.
Friend Lost
He then asked for aspirin to be given to his friend while arranging transfer to a teaching hospital. Unfortunately, the drug was unavailable. Consequently, his friend was taken to a state teaching hospital where aspirin was administered. However, that hospital did not possess a cardiac catheterization lab, which could have potentially saved his friend.
Tragically, his friend died while preparations were underway to move him to Lagos for further care, about three hours into the transfer. Before the incident, he had planned to meet his friend in the Netherlands the following month.
Seeking answers about Nigeria’s healthcare system, he remarked, “Nigeria really let me down today. How can an entire state be without a functioning cath lab? I’m utterly broken.”
