Germany Moves Closer to Hiring Jürgen Klopp as Head Coach
The German Football Association (DFB) said it has reached a preliminary agreement with Jürgen Klopp to become the next men’s national team head coach.
DFB President Bernd Neuendorf and Vice President Hans‑Joachim Watzke met Klopp in New York on Friday, where they discussed the key terms of a possible contract.
Both sides agreed on the core points and expressed optimism that a final deal can be signed, provided an agreement is reached with Klopp’s current employer, Red Bull Group.
The DFB noted that any contract would still need formal approval from the supervisory board and general meeting of DFB GmbH und Co. KG.
Klopp, who has been Red Bull’s Head of Global Football since January 2025, would sign a four‑year deal and take charge of Germany for the first time if the talks succeed.
His appointment would follow the expected departure of Julian Nagelsmann after Germany’s early exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
