Federal High Court Sets July 7 Hearing for PDP Leadership Dispute Suit
The Federal High Court in Abuja has scheduled July 7 to hear all pending applications and the substantive suit filed by the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The suit, brought by the BoT under former Senate President Adolphus Wabara, asks the court to order INEC to acknowledge the Kabir Turaki‑led interim National Working Committee of the party.
Justice Salim Ibrahim set the date on Tuesday after the parties agreed to file and exchange all outstanding processes before the next adjourned session.
The judge ordered that all processes be filed and served on or before July 6, warning that further delays would not be tolerated.
Plaintiffs, which include Wabara, former Niger State governor Babangida Aliyu, Professor Jerry Gana, Olabode George and the PDP itself, request that INEC update the party’s leadership records on its website and accept communications from the interim leadership.
Counsel for the plaintiffs, Gordy Uche (SAN), urged the court to hear the pending joinder applications together with the main suit to save time, noting that INEC’s July 11 deadline for candidate name submissions remains sacrosanct and that the access code for the portal is still needed.
The case, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1159/2026, was filed on June 4 by a legal team led by Chief Chris Uche, SAN.
The plaintiffs allege that INEC has ignored notices dated May 4 and May 15 informing it of the Turaki‑led interim NWC’s appointment.
In an affidavit, Babangida Aliyu described INEC’s alleged refusal as “a grave affront to the rule of law and the supremacy of the Constitution.”
Meanwhile, a faction loyal to Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, led by Mohammed Abdulrahman, has reportedly been recognised by INEC following a court judgment that nullified the PDP’s November 2025 national convention.
