Edo Queens Crowned 2026 NWFL Champions
Edo Queens have been crowned champions of the 2026 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) after finishing at the top of the Super Six standings in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The Benin‑based side sealed the title on Sunday, June 14, with a goalless draw against Bayelsa Queens in their final match of the competition.
The result gave Edo Queens 10 points from five games, enough to win the league on goal difference ahead of Bayelsa Queens, who also finished with 10 points but settled for second place.
Campaign Overview
Edo Queens’ title‑winning run featured three victories, one draw and a single defeat. Their only loss came in the opening game against Nasarawa Amazons, after which they bounced back strongly to claim the crown.
Nasarawa Amazons finished third with eight points following a 0‑0 draw against Rivers Angels on the final day, while Rivers Angels ended the tournament in fourth place.
Other Results
In the remaining fixture, FC Robo and Abia Angels shared the spoils in a 1‑1 draw. Abia Angels concluded the competition in fifth place with four points, and FC Robo finished bottom with three points.
Reactions
Head coach Moses Aduku praised his players for showing character after a difficult start to the tournament.
“It has been a rewarding season for us after winning the trophy. Despite losing the first game, they picked themselves up and did Edo proud. I commend them,” Aduku said.
He also thanked the Chairman of the Edo State Sports Council, Amadin Enabulele, and the residents of the state for their support, describing it as a key factor behind the team’s success.
Enabulele described the triumph as more than just winning silverware, saying it reflected the state’s commitment to developing future stars.
“I am happy we have won. The victory is beyond winning the trophy; it is about discovering and nurturing talents for the benefit of the state,” he added.
