Human rights attorney Deji Adeyanju has voiced his reaction to the rising anti‑immigrant demonstrations and xenophobic rhetoric unfolding in South Africa, challenging protesters who blame foreign nationals for the nation’s economic woes.
Taking to social media, Adeyanju addressed remarks allegedly made by certain South African demonstrators, who claimed that Nigerians and other African migrants are seizing jobs, winning over local women, and enjoying a superior standard of living.
Adeyanju Refutes Protesters’ Allegations
The lawyer emphasized that achievement stems from diligent effort, not from one’s nationality. He pointed out that possessing luxury vehicles or attaining financial security is far more demanding than the protesters imply.
He stated: “During today’s protest in South Africa, idle South African men were seen lamenting on television, claiming that Nigerians and other Africans are snatching their jobs, their partners, and driving expensive cars while they struggle at home.”
Adeyanju added: “They assume it’s simple to work hard, afford a nice vehicle, and attract women as a high‑value individual. If it truly were that easy, let them try driving a nice car in South Africa and prove it.”
He further remarked: “If it were that effortless, allow South African women to embrace you the way they welcome Nigerians and other Africans. Should Nigerians depart from your nation, your women would flock to Lagos and Abuja.”
