Davido Fires Back at Rarara Over Insecurity Advocacy
Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has responded to criticism from Hausa singer Dauda Kahutu Rarara regarding his decision to highlight Nigeria’s insecurity problem during the FIFA World Cup 2026 Countdown Concert in Los Angeles.
Rarara argued that raising such a sensitive security issue on a global stage could damage Nigeria’s image and hinder ongoing efforts to secure the release of victims. He suggested that political motives may have influenced Davido’s move and warned against turning insecurity into a partisan matter.
Davido did not stay silent. He first reacted on 𝕏 (formerly Twitter) with a brief, mocking reply directed at Rarara before the exchange escalated into a longer statement shared in Hausa and later translated into English.
In his statement, Davido insisted that every patriotic Nigerian has a duty to speak up about challenges affecting the country. He argued that the safety of citizens must come before political loyalty or personal interests.
The singer urged Nigerians to place truth and national interest first, warning that putting politics above the welfare of the people does not help the nation. He reminded citizens to remain mindful of their responsibilities while fearing God in all they do.
“Damn it, every Nigerian should not stay silent about the insecurity plaguing the nation, nor should they prevent others from voicing their concerns openly.
Showing bias and prioritizing personal or political interests, and putting personal desires above the community’s goals, is nothing to be proud of. Be a patriot for your country, stop prioritizing politics over the truth, and fear God in everything you do.”
The exchange highlights the ongoing debate over whether activism or diplomacy is the better approach to addressing Nigeria’s security crisis.
