Davido Reveals Why He Concealed His Father’s Support
Afrobeats superstar Davido has shared that, during the early stages of his music career, he chose not to publicize his father’s involvement. He wanted his talent to be judged on its own merits, fearing that knowledge of his family background would lead to preferential treatment.
In an interview with Vibe Q, the singer explained that he would visit a nearby studio and deliberately avoid mentioning his dad’s role. He said the strategy ultimately worked, as listeners later recognized his genuine ability.
The Role of His Father in Davido’s Musical Development
Davido acknowledged that his father was instrumental in nurturing his passion. While still a student, the elder Davido financed a professional recording studio estimated at over $100,000. This allowed the artist to return home each weekend to record and refine his songs.
He noted that the financial backing gave him the freedom to concentrate on honing his craft, laying the groundwork for the successful career he enjoys today.
“I used to deny my dad whenever I went to the studio down our street. I didn’t want people to know because they’d treat me differently. It all paid off—now they know I was genuinely good at music.”
He added, “My daddy was ready to give me anything. He built me a studio that cost over $100,000 back then. I was still in school, and I’d come home every weekend to work on music.”
