Afrobeat superstar Davido, son of Nigerian billionaire businessman Deji Adeleke, has proclaimed that he is the only billionaire’s child in the world who has built a name and fortune for himself.
Reflecting on the early days of his career, Davido explained that his privileged background initially worked against him in an industry that celebrates “grass to grace” narratives. He said African audiences often favour artists who rise from humble beginnings.
Despite those obstacles, the award‑winning singer insisted he forged his own legacy, positioning himself as the sole billionaire heir — not just in Africa, but worldwide — who has achieved success on his own terms.
“Not to brag, but which other billionaire’s child do you know, not just in Africa but across the globe, that has made a name for himself and also earned substantial wealth?” Davido asked. “You can’t name one apart from me.”
A Terrifying Early‑Career Incident
Davido also recalled a frightening episode that occurred barely two months after his breakthrough tracks began dominating airwaves. At that point, he had released only a few songs, yet their popularity had already secured him a performance booking in Ghana.
The experience left him questioning whether the fame and accompanying exposure were worth the risk, almost prompting him to step away from music altogether.
