Chaos in the Ring Boxing Event July 31: Winners Include Joker Boy, Yusuf, Jafaru and More
The Chaos in the Ring boxing gala took place on Friday night, July 31, at the Balmoral Convention Centre inside the Federal Palace Hotel on Victoria Island, Lagos. Promoted as “Unfinished Business,” the event delivered a mix of skill, drama, and an unexpected bout of chaos that kept fans on the edge of their seats.
The night’s headline clash involved Portable and Charles Okocha. After a brief wrestling‑style exchange that spiraled into disorder, security stepped in to restore order. Portable initially exited the ring, later returned, but officials deemed him unable to continue and awarded the victory to Okocha. Prior to the fight, Portable told reporters, “I am not happy, but I want God to make me happy and my family.”
Before the main controversy, Basit “Joker Boy” Adebayo stole the spotlight with a dominant performance against Said Mohamed Hassan. Adebayo controlled the fight from the opening bell and secured a clinical knockout in the second round. After his win, he thanked Allah, admitted he had not expected the stoppage to come so early, and shared his confidence: “I’m ready to be the face of Nigeria. I think I am currently the face of boxing in Nigeria.”
Yusuf Adeniji also celebrated a successful outing, defeating Rilwan Lawal by unanimous decision in the super‑featherweight division. The judges’ scorecards read 79‑72, 78‑73, and 78‑73, reflecting Adeniji’s composed and consistent performance throughout the scheduled rounds.
One of the biggest upsets of the evening came from Suleiman Jafaru, who knocked out former British super‑welterweight champion Samuel Antwi. The stunning victory earned Jafaru an immediate promotional contract with Balmoral Promotions, and one of the event’s sponsors rewarded him with an electric car.
Michael Babalola maintained his unbeaten professional record with a unanimous decision win over Abidemi Rabiu. In another welterweight bout, Shiloh “Sugar Shy” Defreitas outpointed Ghana’s Eric “Kojo” Quarm, also winning by unanimous decision.
The event also featured a celebrity showdown between music stars Mr Real and Idowest. After five competitive rounds, officials declared the bout a draw. Idowest disputed the decision, insisting he had done enough to win, while the organizers announced plans for a rematch scheduled for October 1.
