CAS fixes date for Senegal’s AFCON appeal hearing
The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has announced that the hearing regarding Senegal’s appeal against the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final will take place on October 8. The case seeks to overturn a CAF decision that awarded Morocco a 3‑0 administrative win and crowned the Atlas Lions champions.
The dispute pits the Senegalese Football Federation against the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the Royal Moroccan Football Federation. At issue is whether Senegal forfeited the final, a ruling that CAF upheld and which led to Morocco being declared the 2025 AFCON winner.
CAS confirmed that the proceedings will be held behind closed doors and will follow the standard arbitration timetable after the parties declined to pursue an expedited process.
“The Parties did not agree to expedite this procedure, which is therefore following a standard timeline according to CAS procedural rules. The hearing will take place behind closed doors,” CAS stated.
The matter has drawn considerable attention across Africa, as the outcome will settle the lingering controversy over the true winner of the 2025 AFCON tournament.
CAS has already constituted the arbitration panel that will hear the case. During the hearing, legal representatives for Senegal, CAF, and Morocco will present their arguments, documentary evidence, and submissions. After the presentations, the arbitrators will deliberate privately before issuing a written ruling on a date yet to be announced.
