CAF Launches Bidding Process for 2028, 2032 and 2036 Africa Cup of Nations
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially opened the bidding process for the 2028, 2032 and 2036 editions of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). The invitation extends to all 54 member associations, giving them the chance to compete for the right to host the continent’s premier football tournament.
Bidding Process and Eligibility
CAF announced the development on its official website, marking the start of a race to stage three editions of its flagship competition over the next ten years. The governing body emphasized that any member association can submit a bid, with the selection focused on finding hosts able to deliver tournaments that meet CAF’s technical, commercial and operational standards.
Support from Advisers and Transparent Selection
To ensure fairness, CAF designed the bidding framework with the assistance of its independent expert adviser, PwC, together with technical, financial and external legal advisors. The framework is intended to guarantee a transparent, competitive and equitable selection process.
Looking Ahead to 2027 AFCON and Tournament Growth
The announcement comes as preparations continue for the 2027 AFCON, which will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda from June 19 to July 17, 2027. This will be the first AFCON staged across three East African nations.
In recent years, CAF has boosted the tournament’s global appeal, resulting in increased commercial value and record audiences on television and digital platforms. The competition remains Africa’s premier sporting event and one of the most-watched football tournaments worldwide, attracting a cumulative global TV audience of over 3.2 billion viewers and more than six billion digital views.
