Nigerian singer Brymo has urged the country’s biggest music stars to step back from the limelight and give younger artistes a chance to shine.
Brymo Calls for Shift in Industry Focus
According to Brymo, conversations in the industry continually revolve around established acts such as Wizkid, Davido and Burna Boy, while emerging talents who should be leading the pop scene receive little attention.
He argued that the long‑running “Big 3” discussion keeps the spotlight on a small group of performers, making it harder for newer acts to gain the recognition they deserve.
Brymo said the focus should move away from criticising the lyrical substance of younger singers and toward the way some veterans appear to lock down the industry for themselves.
He stated, “We need to stop talking about how the new artists don’t have lyrical substance and focus on how some artists want to lock down the industry for themselves with the ‘Big 3’ narrative and continue reigning forever.
They should shift aside. Right now, Rema should be the biggest pop star in the country without any doubt. All this talk about Wizkid, 2Face, Olamide, Burna Boy. Why? In the Pop scene?? Wetin dem dey sing? You can plug the radio but nobody likes your stuff anymore. Move aside, evolve.”
The veteran singer’s remarks have sparked debate across social media, with many fans and industry observers weighing in on the balance between honouring legacy acts and nurturing the next generation of Nigerian music.
