Benue Commissioner Blasts Senator Moro for Politicising Herdsmen Attacks
Benue State Commissioner for Water Resources, Environment and Climate Change, Odoh Ugwu, has accused Senator Abba Moro of “dancing on the graves” of people killed by armed herders in order to score cheap political points against Governor Hyacinth Alia.
Ugwu said Moro has repeatedly dragged the governor’s name into political conversations, using baseless allegations to stay relevant and mask what he described as the senator’s poor performance in the Red Chamber.
The commissioner stressed that Benue South deserves a senator who unites rather than divides, one who delivers tangible results instead of turning to the media with unfounded claims that exploit citizens’ suffering.
Allegations of Falsehoods and Media Sensationalism
In his statement, Ugwu described Moro’s recent media appearances as a “reckless torrent of falsehoods, distortions, and desperate political propaganda” aimed at damaging the reputation of Governor Alia.
He noted that while Benue South faces serious security challenges, Moro has chosen to politicise the pain of victims rather than support the governor’s efforts to curb the insecurity.
Demand for Accountability and Concrete Action
Ugwu challenged the senator to show concrete interventions he has made to improve security, attract development, empower youth, or alleviate hardship in his constituency, insisting that leadership is measured by action, not by sensational media outings.
He specifically cited Moro’s claim on AIT that he had increased a ₦150,000 pledge made by a commissioner in Alia’s administration to an IDP camp, urging the senator to provide verifiable evidence if the allegation is true.
The commissioner warned that Moro’s pattern of accusations and media attacks only serves as a distraction, urging him to present a verifiable scorecard instead of manufacturing controversies.
Governor Alia’s Record of Inclusiveness and Achievement
Ugwu highlighted Governor Alia’s fair and inclusive approach toward Benue South, noting that the administration has entrusted the zone with key ministries such as Finance, Education, Health, Women Affairs, Water Resources, Environment and Climate Change, and Information.
He asserted that no amount of political blackmail, misinformation, or character assassination can erase the visible achievements of the Alia administration, adding that the electorate is politically conscious and cannot be swayed by recycled propaganda.
