Benue Commissioner Accuses Senator Abba Moro of Blame-Shifting Over Security Crisis
Benue State Commissioner for Water Resources, Environment and Climate Change, Odoh Ugwu, has denounced Senator Abba Moro for allegedly dancing on the graves of victims killed by armed herders in order to score political points.
Ugwu claimed that Moro is spreading falsehoods against Governor Hyacinth Alia to boost his own relevance, describing the senator’s tactic as a repeated attempt to drag the governor’s name into every political conversation.
The commissioner stressed that Benue South deserves a senator who unites rather than divides, one who delivers effective representation and solves people’s problems instead of resorting to baseless allegations and media sensationalism.
In his statement, Ugwu said:
“I have watched with utter disappointment the latest media outing by Senator Abba Moro, characterised by what I consider a reckless torrent of falsehoods, distortions, and desperate political propaganda aimed at tarnishing the hard-earned reputation of His Excellency, Rev. Fr. Dr Hyacinth Iormem Alia, Executive Governor of Benue State.”
He added that, at a time when Benue South faces serious security challenges, Moro has chosen to politicise the pain of innocent citizens rather than support Governor Alia’s efforts to combat insecurity.
Ugwu called on Moro to account for his tenure, asking what tangible interventions he has made to improve security, attract development, empower youth, or alleviate hardship after more than seven years in the Senate.
The commissioner specifically referenced Moro’s appearance on AIT, where the senator claimed to have increased a ₦150,000 pledge made by a commissioner in Alia’s administration to an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp. Ugwu urged Moro to present credible evidence for such claims instead of making sweeping statements on national television.
He warned that Moro’s pattern of accusations and media attacks serves only to distract from real solutions and urged the senator to show his performance scorecard rather than manufacture controversies.
Ugwu praised Governor Hyacinth Alia for his fairness and inclusiveness toward Benue South, noting that the administration has entrusted the zone with strategic ministries such as Finance, Education, Health, Women Affairs, Water Resources, Environment and Climate Change, and Information—ministries that continue to deliver meaningful policies for all Benue people.
He concluded that no amount of political blackmail, misinformation, or character assassination can erase the visible achievements of the Alia administration, adding that the politically conscious people of Benue South cannot be swayed by recycled propaganda or imagined narratives.
