Bauchi Senator Shehu Buba Dumps APC for Peoples Redemption Party
The senator representing Bauchi South Senatorial District, Shehu Buba, has reportedly defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP).
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Communications, Sabo Muhammad, Buba accused certain APC officials of manipulating the process and violating the party’s constitution.
He claimed that party officials had been “hijacked” by individuals who did not mean well for the party, allowing themselves to be confined at undisclosed hotels in Bauchi State while releasing predetermined election results without appearing at the venues.
Following his withdrawal, photographs surfaced on Sunday from Mujaddadi TV and Buba’s social media team, showing the senator holding a PRP registration certificate, fueling reports of his departure from the ruling party.
Meanwhile, supporters of the senator gathered at a solidarity rally held at Pali Suite in Bauchi on Saturday, reaffirming their loyalty and declaring readiness to follow him to any political platform ahead of the 2027 elections.
They urged Buba to leave the APC and join the PRP to actualise his governorship ambition.
Supporters Praise Buba’s Leadership Qualities
Haruna Modibbo, Chairman of the Mujaddadi Kafar Kafarmu Group, described Buba as the most competent aspirant for the Bauchi governorship seat.
Modibbo stated that Buba withdrew from the APC race due to alleged plans to impose a candidate rather than conducting a free, fair and transparent primary.
He added that since Buba’s withdrawal, many supporters have accused certain APC stakeholders in Bauchi of working against his governorship ambition.
Modibbo highlighted Buba’s track record in youth empowerment, women support programmes, job creation, education and healthcare, asserting that the state would benefit significantly if he emerged as governor in 2027.
The group pledged to mobilise support for him across the state and urged women and youths to sensitise residents on the need to elect a capable and people‑oriented leader.
Ummi Aliyu, leader of the women’s wing of the Mujaddadi Kafar Kafarmu Group, said members were ready to intensify grassroots mobilisation for the senator and urged voters to look beyond party affiliation, supporting candidates based on competence, credibility and leadership qualities.
