Babatunde Fashola Rules Out Presidential Bid, Calls for Idea‑Based 2027 Elections
Former Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola has dismissed rumours that he is eyeing the presidency, stating that he already feels like a president in his own home.
Reflecting on his political career, Fashola described it as an unimaginable privilege and expressed hope that his journey would motivate a new generation of Nigerians to believe in the country’s possibilities.
When asked directly about a presidential run, he replied, “No, president of what? I’m president at home, fi kini ye le — leave it alone.”
Fashola also criticised the opposition, arguing that parties have failed to present a credible alternative for the 2027 elections.
He said the opposition’s focus is merely on removing President Bola Tinubu without offering voters a clear vision of what they would do differently.
According to Fashola, the 2027 contest should be a clash of ideas rather than a personality‑driven battle, and he has yet to see any exciting policy proposals from the other side.
“There is nothing exciting from the other side except those who simply want a change of government. But to what? What are they giving us instead?” he questioned.
