Baba-Ahmed Warns Opposition to Stay Vigilant After NDC Deregistration
Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, the national leader of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), called on all opposition members to stay alert and vigilant as the country approaches the 2027 general elections.
His remarks came after a Federal High Court in Lokoja, Kogi State, overturned an earlier decision that had instructed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to register the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) as a political party. The court’s reversal followed an application by the Peace Movement Party (PMP), which argued that the original judgment was issued without joinder of all necessary parties.
Justice Isah Dashen, presiding over the case, emphasized that any substantive ruling must only be made after every interested party has been given an opportunity to be heard.
Reacting to the judgment, Baba-Ahmed said, “I don’t think any party in the opposition sleeps with both eyes; every party except perhaps the APC. It is very unsettling what happened in court today with the NDC. Any group that claims to be comfortable is not serious about being a political party in Nigeria.”
