APC Chieftain Warns of Sabotage Ahead of 2027 Elections
A youth stakeholder and APC chieftain from Bungudu Local Government Area in Zamfara State, Sanusi Sa’adu, has warned President Bola Tinubu that the party risks losing its base if Governor Dauda Lawal’s defection to the APC is not rejected.
Speaking to Punch, Sa’adu vowed to either quit the APC or actively work to undermine the party’s prospects in the 2027 general elections, should Lawal remain in the party.
He explained that an earlier video he made was intended to alert Tinubu and APC leadership to the difficulties faced by Zamfara residents due to what he described as the governor’s ineffective governance since taking office.
“I told President Tinubu that he will lose many supporters in Zamfara as a result of Governor Lawal’s defection to the APC,” Sa’adu said. “His move is an evil wind that will bring no good to the party. I, my family, and numerous APC supporters in the state will not vote for Tinubu or Lawal in 2027 if the governor stays in the party.”
He added that he would either abandon the APC and join another party or sabotage its chances of winning elections in 2027. To that end, he has already formed a political group called “Anti-party Activities of Nigeria,” of which he is the national chairman.
Sa’adu acknowledged that Governor Lawal has executed several projects in the state but lamented that he has abandoned the political structure that helped him win the 2023 governorship election.
“Yes, the governor has done a lot in terms of project execution, yet there are other areas he has completely ignored — particularly human development. He has not assisted those who helped him win the election,” Sa’adu noted.
He accused the governor of neglecting campaign supporters, refusing to allow credible candidates to secure tickets during the last primary elections, and handing out party tickets to individuals who do not reflect the wishes of the broader APC base.
“Many people are offended because those who received party tickets for the 2027 elections are not the choice of the majority of APC supporters. Consequently, the governor should anticipate anti‑party activities,” he warned.
Regarding his newly formed association, Sa’adu said its activities will include educating Zamfara residents on the qualities to look for in candidates, regardless of party affiliation.
“We will not campaign for the party even though we are APC supporters. That is why I urge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take note of the dangers looming over the 2027 general elections,” he concluded.
He asserted that the defection of Governor Dauda Lawal to the APC has weakened the party’s chances of winning in Zamfara, noting that over 80 percent of APC supporters are unhappy with his move and will do everything possible to prevent his return to power in 2027.
