Angela Okorie Defends Burning Burial Dress
Nollywood actress Angela Okorie has reacted to criticism after she burned the white dress she wore to the burial of her late colleague, Alexx Ekubo.
In an Instagram story post, she explained that her godmother advised her not to keep clothing worn to a funeral, saying it should be burned.
She wrote, “This is the outfit I wore to Alex’s burial. My Godmother said it is not good to keep the clothes you wore to a burial around you; you should burn them. So family and friends, take note. I felt I should share this information. May the Lord keep and bless us with long life. Amen. Chaiii.”
The post attracted backlash, with many netizens calling her action insensitive and disrespectful to the grieving family.
In a swift reply, Okorie stated that she is following personal customs and urged critics to stop misinterpreting her words.
She added, “Oh well, those who know, know my message here is not to stir up anything, because I know you idiots will interpret it wrongly. But to whom it may concern, I gave the outfit I wore to the burial to my aunt in Owerri to burn for me. I didn’t even take it to Lagos. This information is for whoever needs to hear it.”
She concluded, “Some of you are talking trash; you had better shut your mouth and understand that the family and loved ones are still grieving. Be careful what you say out there. Ndi iberibe.”
