Amaechi Withdraws Suit Challenging Atiku’s ADC Candidacy
The Federal High Court in Abuja struck out a pre‑election suit filed by former Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi against former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Friday.
Justice Joyce Abdulmalik granted the strike‑out after Amaechi’s counsel, Jibrin Okutepa SAN, moved a motion for withdrawal, explaining that the parties had already settled their differences and filed a discontinuance application.
After hearing the counsel, the judge ordered the case to be struck out.
Amaechi had originally asked the court to set aside the ADC presidential primary held on May 25, which produced Atiku as the party’s candidate, and to stop Atiku from presenting himself as the ADC presidential aspirant for the 2027 general elections.
He also sought to bar the Independent National Electoral Commission from recognising Atiku as the ADC’s nominee and to compel the party to hold a fresh primary in line with the Electoral Act 2006, the ADC constitution and its internal guidelines within 14 days of any judgment.
The suit, filed as FHC/ABJ/CS/1215/2026, named Atiku, the ADC and INEC as defendants.
