Adelabu’s Popularity Grows Amid Criticism, Aide Says
The media aide to former Minister of Power and Oyo State governorship aspirant Adebayo Adelabu, Femi Awogboro, has declared that no amount of criticism or blackmail can reduce Adelabu’s popularity as the 2027 election approaches.
Awogboro characterised the recent attacks on Adelabu as a familiar political tactic used against rising contenders.
“Those who believe they can halt Adelabu through media assaults and sponsored criticisms should study history. The same strategies were employed against President Bola Tinubu before the 2023 election. He was vilified, underestimated, and attacked from every angle, yet he prevailed because the electorate saw past the propaganda,” he stated.
He added, “If Adelabu were not a significant factor in Oyo’s political landscape, nobody would be expending so much energy attacking him.”
Awogboro urged political analysts to scrutinise the timing of the criticisms.
“Why now? Why were these concerns not raised years ago? Why does the momentum behind Adelabu intensify as 2027 nears, prompting certain individuals to suddenly become political activists?” he questioned.
He noted that Adelabu enjoys strong backing from youths, women, professionals, and grassroots members of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“Those behind these campaigns are wasting their time. The movement surrounding Adelabu is organic,” he affirmed.
Awogboro further predicted that many of Adelabu’s current critics would eventually rally behind him, maintaining that the former minister remains one of the most prepared leaders for Oyo State.
Adelabu formally announced his intention to contest the 2027 Oyo State governorship election on the APC platform in May 2026, following his resignation as Minister of Power.
