ADC Youths Protest in Abuja Demand Judge’s Removal
On Tuesday, hundreds of African Democratic Congress (ADC) youths took to the streets of Abuja, marching from the party’s national secretariat in Wuse II to the Federal High Court in Maitama, calling for the removal of Justice Peter Lifu.
Led by ADC National Youth Leader Balarabe Rufai, demonstrators chanted “Justice Lifu must go” and held placards reading “Judiciary is not for sale,” “Save our democracy now,” and “No to one‑party state.” Some also shouted, “No ADC, no election.”
Speaking to journalists, Rufai urged former presidents and heads of state to step in, saying Nigerians are losing faith in the judiciary. “We ask the Attorney General of the Federation to call Justice Lifu to order and have him removed,” he said.
He added that the party had already petitioned the National Judicial Council (NJC) against Justice Lifu, accusing him of ignoring a subsisting Court of Appeal order that stayed further proceedings. “We have received no response from the NJC. We are here as young citizens because what we see is judicial banditry, and it must end now,” Rufai stated.
Rufai warned that the protests will continue until Justice Lifu is removed, stressing that ADC’s participation in the 2027 general elections depends on a fair judicial system.
